Pelvic pain is complicated. Many conditions can cause pelvic pain and painful intercourse. The best treatment is integrative care where the mental, emotional, and physical aspects of the problem are treated in a coordinated fashion with each of the providers communicating and consulting with one another. DrSara maintains close ties to the medical community through memberships in medical societies such as the Sexual Medicine Society of North American (SMSNA, ISSM, and ISSWSH) and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). DrSara has presented papers and workshops at medical societies locally, nationally, and internationally.

Associated Urologists of North Carolina (AUNC), and, in particular, Dr. Stephen Shaban. Dr. Shaban is a board certified urologist with extensive training in male factor infertility and sexual medicine. Dr. Shaban is masterful at establishing rapport with his patients, putting them at ease with his warmth and humor. He is an old fashioned, old school physican who puts his patient’s interests above all else and advocates for the really right treatment, not just the treatment he is able to provide.
Chapel Hill Women’s Medicine (CHWM) and, in particular, Dr. Karen Clark. Dr. Clark, is a board certified gynecologist who has extensive training in female sexual dysfunctions and menopausal medicine. She is respectful and collegial in all her interactions with patients and is a member of the Internatinal Society for Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH). Dr. Clark provides a wide range of non hormonal as well as bioidentical treatments for low libido, female sexual difficulties as well as peri and post menopausal symptoms.
Grace Pelvic Health is a speciality pelvic floor PT practice. Dr. Erika Grace and her associates are highly trained, doctoral level physical therapists with a specific specialty in issues relating to pelvic pain. Some conditions such as painful intercourse and vaginismus require referral to a pelvic floor specialist who can manage the particulars of retraining pelvic floor muscles. DrSara typically referrs such patients to Dr. Clark for a thorough GYN exam and assessment of hormonal status. Dr. Clark typically diagnoses pelvic floor issues and refers to Dr. Grace if necessary.

Dr. Sara Rosenquist is a Board Certified Clinical Health Psychologist (ABPP) and Fellow of the Academy of Clinical Health Psychology (FACHP). She is a sex therapist certified by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), and an approved consultant, certified in the practice of hypnosis by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH). DrSara helps families, couples and individuals with hypnosis, sex therapy, marital therapy, marriage counseling, sex addiction, postpartum depression, and infertility issues. She is the author of “After The Stork: The Couple’s Guide to Preventing and Overcoming Postpartum Depression”, and enjoys working with clients from her office in Cary, NC.

Dr. Rosenquist is a member of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSM) and the International Society of Sexual Medicine. She stays up to date in the latest research and prefers to collaborate closely with your physician and/or pelvic floor physical therapist whenever possible.
